Findable from four feet away

A tinned seafood company that kept losing to cheaper tins in badly lit aisles. We gave it the warmest color on the shelf.

Havndal had been selling the same three tins for eleven years in a navy that disappeared under supermarket light. We spent two days in four stores with a light meter and a shelf mock-up before we drew anything. The vermilion came out of that, not out of a mood board: it is the only warm color in the category and it holds at a distance of four feet, which is where the decision actually gets made. The wave mark is embossed rather than printed so it survives the wet hands of a fish counter.
