A green nobody mistakes for the council

An urban forestry charity that shared its old forest green with two municipal departments and a waste contractor.

Identity

Understory 3 — Six years of planting on one street

Understory 4 — A Saturday crew, mostly volunteers

Understory plants and maintains street trees on land nobody else wants. The problem was never the work, it was that everything they put out looked like a notice. We moved them to a chartreuse that is unmistakably alive and unmistakably not official, and put it on enamel tags rather than posters, so the identity lives on the trees themselves. The field booklet is the only printed piece, and it is deliberately cheap: saddle-stitched, one color, meant to get wet.
